How much better off would Natives be today if the Indian Act had been dismantled four decades ago, when the Liberals floated the idea?
Instead, except for pockets of success, the lives of aboriginals are worse than ever.
As Auditor General Sheila Fraser noted in a report several years ago, the education gap between Natives on reserves and Canadian population as a whole is widening.
It will take 28 years for reserve Natives to catch up, the report observed.
